This month we took some time and had a Q&A with Patrick Pinkart – the inventor of Quantum Grip!
Here is a bit of our dialogue:
How has QG helped you personally? What was the driving force behind the creation of QG?
For many years (about 9 years after a spinal cord injury), because my injury affected my grip strength, I played golf using crude hand-made grips and gloves with Velcro glued on. They were ugly, but effective enough that I could reliably hold the club and be a golfer again! Friends and other players frequently raised the , “did you ever think that this could be patentable?” question. In 2005 (14 years after breaking my neck), I finally pursued a patent. Because the unique design of my ‘ideal’ golf grip located Velcro in a recessed groove so the hooks would be flat and flush with the surface, I received a patent! I am so grateful that my idea has now become a reality, and a simple, real fine, professional product is available for people with similar challenges. The driving force behind Quantum Grip, was/is the love of golf. Those who have played golf know what I mean. Those just getting started in the game, there is no healthy bug that’s more contagious! It’s a personal game of finesse, full of fresh air and beauty. It’s fun, motivating and feels great!
What is your favorite transformation story of QG?
I don’t really have a favorite single transformation story. That is because we have received so many letters and phone calls of thanks and testimonials. The ones that stand out to me though, are those that include a statement, like John R’s, a former high school superintendent and stroke survivor, who said– “I have no grip at all in my left hand, and couldn’t play golf without Quantum Grip”. He now plays several times per week, is consistently improving his score, and took second in his men’s league flight last year! I love it when people tell me how QG has given them their game back when they couldn’t play any more.
Quantum Grip is really the end result of one man’s desire to play the game that meant so much to him as a young man. There simply is no sport like golf. It builds character in the young and gives purpose to older players.
Being the creator, in your biased opinion, how does QG compare to it’s competition?
Well, I’m not the first and only person to design useful equipment that uses Velcro. There are similar products. Many require cumbersome straps or wraps which players often need help to use, or the Velcro covers the entire grip surface. None have just the right amount of Velcro disposed flush in a recessed groove like Quantum Grip. I am very proud of the fine product that we’ve designed and have available. Both the glove and the grip are high quality, long-lasting and look and feel just like standard golf equipment.
